Roque's Blues Band

Out of the rich Gumbo of Cane River's three hundred-year-old diverse culture comes the unique sound of Roque's Blues Band.  Roque's Blues Band started with members of the original Lighthouse Crew who organized a monthly blues jam at Roque's Blues Hall.  This Jam has gained in popularity and musicians throughout the region show up to sit in with the band.  Regional stars such as B.B. Majors and Pat Harris attend the jam sessions.  Roque's Blues Band has also had the privilege to back the late legendary Natchitoches Blues Man, Overton Owens on his two CD's and his live performances.  Roque's Blues Band is a five piece group featuring Hardrick Rivers on Sax and Vocals, Rick Seale on Guitar and Vocals, Pop Hymes on Drums, Henry Reggans on Keyboards and Vocals, and James Wagley on Bass and Vocals.

Dr. Drip Drop - He's got style, moves, a voice and a history.  His repertoire has established him as the King of rhythm and blues in Natchitoches. Backed by the cadre of fine musicians that form the Roques Blues Band, Overton Owens, a.k.a. "Dr. Drip Drop", has recorded his voice and his essence for blues aficionados in a debut album entitled"Next Time You See Me." Born in 1924, Owens sang and performed from the time he was 8 years old.  He was influenced by and performed with Willie Dixon, Chuck Ellis, Lowell Fulson and Bobby Bland.  He has influenced the music and performers of Natchitoches Parish for 74 years.   In 1997, his contributions to Louisiana music were recognized with the following: 1.) Inducted into the Hall of Master Folk Artists by the Louisiana Folklife Center, 2.)  received the Louisiana Music Heritage Association Award. 3.)  honored by the City of Natchitoches as the "Natchitoches Blues Man." His recordings with the Roque's Blues Band include: "Next Time You See Me" "Christmastime" "Live at Music on Main Street" (His last performance)

Sadly, Overton Owens died in November 1998 We all miss him very much.
