G.G. Lounge County Road 159 Winterville, MS 38782
It's easy to find Winterville, MS, and the G.G. Lounge. From Greenville, take Hwy 1 north about 6 miles to the Winterville State Park, a complex of huge Indian mounds. Then take the next road to the right.
Downtown Winterville looks like a ghost town. But believe me--there's plenty of live bodies and hot action at the downtown G.G. Lounge.
Here's Fred and Ronald Grey, father/son and the owners of the G.G. Lounge, standing outside their juke joint. Click on the image for a full-size version.
These two gentlemen are great people. They painted the inside of the G.G. black and white for racial harmony reasons--they wanted a place where both races could come together in brotherhood. "Just enjoy themselves," Ronald said.
You'd better believe that this white boy enjoyed himself at the G.G. Lounge. T-Model Ford is Fred's brother-in-law, and he plays at the G.G.'s Sunday afternoon fish frys. Here's T-Model playing the blues while his wife, Stella, dances. While Ronald tends bar and T-Model plays the blues, Fred frys catfish outside the front door in a big cast iron pot.
We filmed part of JUKE at the G.G. Lounge, but they should film an Old Milwaukee beer commercial there some Sunday afternoon. I ask you: How can it get any better than fresh Mississippi River catfish, ice cold beer and hot Mississippi Delta blues?
If you wanna hear some hot Mississippi Delta juke joint blues in the cool comfort of your living room, check out the CD old T-Model recorded with Fat Possum. They titled it Pee-wee Get My Gun.
